Tried to lower my reay window, and it doesn't lower, I've pushed on the tailgate to make sure it was shut and everything. When I use the keyhole in the tailgate, I hear a "click" noise when I turn it either way, like it's making a connection.. ....I'M LOST! Is there a manual over ride? Or just lift the back of the top up and pull the gate down to check it out? was working fine up till the other day.....HELP

In order to get the window down manually, you have to remove the access panel on the inside of your tail gate. Once you have done that, your will have to remove the motor. Your motor is probably your problem any way. In order to remove the motor, you will have to reach in and up to remove the 3 bolts that hold the motor in place, I believe they are either 3/8" or 7/16". Once motor is out, disconnect the wiring harness as well. You should be able to pull the window down till it is clear of the top, them gently push it down. Make sure you push it down all the way into the gate. If you don't you still will not be able to open the tail gate due to the safety interlock. You can now check your motor (plug it back into the wiring harness) for operation. Use either the key or switch on the dash and see if it is working. If motor does not turn by using either switch, motor is bad. If motor turns but gear does not, then the internal gear is bad or the rubber snubbers are bad. New gear will run you about $10.00 at auto parts store. New motor runs around $30.00 I think.

With all due respect, but why not just jumper the motor after getting the acces panel off to see if it is or is not the motor before going thru the PITA to get it out while the glass is still in place. The wires are running along the botttom of the tailgate and are accessable to jumper, (reversing the leads reverses the direction of the motor). If it works then the problem is in the electrical connections which are high on the failure list. The circuit is very simple and can be easily troubleshot using a basic multimeter.

Good luck,

:)>-

I have the same problem of the previous writer - explain to me again how to test the motor - my bronco was in an accident and the bumper and side panel repaired/replaced - after accident motor would run sometimes and sometimes not - hit the back door with a rubber mallet it start working - took it in for repair with window down - got it back window up but motor does not run at all - shop tells me it just old motor and not accident related - so any thought would be greatly appreciated - bit new at this. you can reach me at [email protected] too. Thanks

If the wiring is working and the motor click when you try to use it then it is most likely stripped gears. I got new gears for my rear window motor from the ford.
