I have a 1980 Bronco that I just purchased, and after several weeks of good rear window operation, I lowered the rear window, but it would not raise. I have checked voltage at the wire loom going into the tail gate, and have power in both positions with the switch. How do I access the rear window motor if the window is in the lowered position???

Thanks for the help,

A quick check to see if it is a motor problem or circuit problem is to jumper the motor leads. With the access panel removed you will find them running just along the bottom edge of the access hole. You should find the motor connector near the bottom center. Using either another battery or a long set of jumpers, connect directly to the motor. Reversing the connection reverses the direction of the motor.

Obviously if that makes the motor move, the motor is OK and you have a circuit problem. Common problems with the tailgate circuit are; 1. The safety limit switch, (on a 1980 Bronco, it is located in the latch handle) 2. The ground return path, (often in older vehicles one of the connectors is corroded or a wire is broken)

Also, the driver window switch must be in the center position for the tail gate key switch to function.

I am attaching a wiring diagram for an 83 but it is the same for all 80 - 96 Broncos with minor changes in later models.

Good Luck,

:)>-
