Thanks in advance to anyone that's willing to answer a dumb question. My son and I just bought a 1983 bronco to plow the driveway. The back window goes up and down with the switch on the dashboard no problem.

Is the rear window supposed to disappear into the tailgate completely when you lower it? My window stops about 1-2 inches from being totally in the tailgate.

I know there is a safety switch and my main problem is that the tailgate won't open. It seems to be unlatched on the driver,s (left) side but won't unlatch on the drivers (right) side. I'm sure I screwed it up even worse by yanking on the handle.

Any help would be really appreciated. We are low voltage electricians and not the greatest mechanics in the world. We managed to replace the entire ignition system so she starts and runs. Sure would love to get the tailgate open.

Thanks,

Father and Son

welcome to the zone. to get your tailgate open without the handle all you have to do is remove the inside cover off the tailgate, there will be two cables that go to the latching mechanisms, pull them both towards the middle of the tailgate at the same time, you should hear them both "pop" and your tailgate should open. after that you can remove your handle and hardware and try to fix what was jamming it up, and yes the window should be completely inside the tailgate when fully down.
