my 79 has the factory block, a lift block, and a wedge in the rear. im wanting to get rid of the blocks and run superflex 12 leaf packs. can i ditch all that stuff and run a 6" spring and get rid of the factory block and just move the spring perches to achieve 4" of lift?

If you want to get rid of the factory wedge, you will have to have the spring perches cut off and re-welded (or new ones welded) on to the axle housing, taking into account your lift. In other words, you will have to roll the axle to the proper drive shaft angle before welding on the perches. Other wise, you must have the factory wedges installed to maintain drive shaft alighnment/angle. I run 4" lift springs with the factory wedges installed and have no binding problems, 6" may be pushing the angle on the factory wedges.

Even with my shackle flip , with 10" of lift I need the wedge to keep my pinion angle right. check out "2005 probs& mods" in general disscus.for pics.

i just wanna get rid of the wedge so it sits level and was planning on just welding on new perches at the correct angle, and with the factory block my idea was to ditch that and run a 6" pack to lift me 4" so there will be less leverage and maybe less spring wrap. i was just curious if this would be a worthwhile thing to do. i plan on using the deaver/superflex 12 spring packs.
