Rear end humming

I have 1989 Bronco and theres a low humming noise coming from the rearend.Is there some kind of of conditioner or a certain type of gear oil i can put in there to quite the humming.Thanks

You could get lucky & find it's a wheel bearing.....

Another poss. is a loose pinion nut. (inside the rear u-joint yoke)

Worst case, a failing internal part.

Go to your local driveline shop...they will diagnose it for you..usually for free.. [-o<

pull the diff cover off with a catch pan onder it to catch the fluid that will escape. look at everything as you rotate the drive shaft and tires. something should catch your eye such as broken teeth or very loose bearings. If all looks well remove the tires and drums try to move the axel shaft up and down there should be NO movement. Try to move the axel end of the drive shaft up and down left and right there should be NO movement there. At some point in all this moveing you should find the culpret to your humming.
