Have a 1996 Bronco with the most annoying rattle on the driver's side right at my ear. I've taken trim pieces off, tightened screws, fastened things tighter but I can't seem to get rid of it and it does it all the time while driving regardless of speed. Seems to be coming from where the top mounts to the body, headliner area or seat belt shoulder harness mounting area. It's only on the left side and sounds like a thin metal rod or something like that tapping another piece of metal. Anyone have any ideas?

yo

We had same type of noise, but it was more ear-piercing squeeeeeeeeeeeeeal;

was from longest bolt attaching moulding/camper top to cab roof; right in middle

Here it is in the 96 Roof Rear Garnish Mouldings diagram

1 517C04 Roof Trim Rear Moulding

2 29004 Quarter Window Garnish Lower Front Moulding

3 N8071545-SW Pushpin (6 Req'd Each Side)

4 N807372-S Pushpin, Nylon (2 Req'd Each Side)

5 29010 Quarter Rear Window Garnish Rear Moulding

6 29126 Body Side Window Garnish Moulding Front Bracket

7 N800486-S9 Bolt and Washer

8 N801157-S58 ***** and Washer (2 Req'd Each Side, 1 Req'd Center)

9 518B34 Roof Trim Rear Moulding Joint Cover

10 29070 Body Side Window Garnish Moulding Bracket

We ended-up removing the trim and better half knitted a black strip that we attached w/craft glue to same area the trim covered

Duck Tape L'Fixer - did you manage to find where that rattle was coming from?  I have 96 Bronco and have exactly the same problem.  Sounds like a metal rod or ***** tapping against the panel near the seat belt fixing.  I have taken all the trim off, and it sounds like it could be coming from the inside of the panel.  If you have solved this I'd love to hear from you!  Cheers.
