My stock power steering pump leaks like crazy on my '88 Bronco. I've aquired a Saginaw pump from a late '70s model Ford pick-up, which I have been told is a direct replacement and is a better pump. I was wondering what the best way to replace the pump. The pulleys seem to be pressed on. Getting the pulley off shouldn't be a problem... putting the new one on will be. Is there any way to do this without pulling the whole bracket? Any help is appreciated.

I believe AutoZone "loans" the tools to do this project.

ALSO... >

The re-seal kits are cheap & easy....assuming your pump works fine & just leaking at the seal. :D/

If you acquired the pump only and no brackets for it, you may be s.o.l.

The Saginaw pump sould have a different bolt pattern to the bracket than a Ford pump.

Hey CrazAg, check the Tech Articles section. Go to my link for Miesk5, and check out the Saginaw power steering swap links. Should help you out.

Thanks for the posts, guys. That tech page that JSM84 recommended is great. It's got all the info I'll ever need.

I got that pump for free from a friend and it doesn't have the bracket. Since I'm not out any money, I may check into purchasing one that comes with the bracket. I don't guess I have to upgrade the pump, but I'm getting really tired of the whining all the time and I'm about to upgrade from 33's to 35's. The Saginaw would be nice to have with the bigger tires on trails.
