If your cooling system wont hold pressure it will overheat. First place to start is check for any leaks, get it pressure tested. I had an old ford pickup that kept overheating. Could find the problem then finally I yanked the motor to redo all the gaskets and also did the frost plugs, they were corroded beyond belief and one had pinholes in it. I replaced all the frost plugs and it never overheated again.

could also be a faulty thermostat or cap, or you may want to try flushing the system to see if anything is clogged. how's the antifreeze mixture?

all the plugs are good, and i fixed a leak on the radiator. i keep it at about a 50/50 mixture. the cap is brand new. i'm also thinking about taking the thermostat out. its just a trail truck only ran on the weekends.

How new is that radiator??? you may need to get a new one or have it rotted out......

also how big is it?? my old man had a 78 with a 408 c6 and balls to the wall, ran atleast a 3 core radiator dual electric fans and a clutch fan with like 190 thermostat to keep it running cool.....

and a flush wouldnt hurt as stated by Bronc76
