OK. I've had a remanufactured 2.9L installed in my '88 Bronco II. Now 900 miles later, all is well, until today coming home from work. The idiot light for the oil pressure comes on. Checked oil, and it was a little low, but not alarmingly so. What could cause a "new" engine to do this, or is it the engine at all? The Bronco had sat for 5 years before being driven and having the new engine installed. I'll take any and all ideas. Thanks.

Actual low oil pressure is caused by worn bearings or a bad oil pump.

Since your engine is new, it shouldn't be either of those.

The idiot light on your dash is connected electrically to a pressure sending unit mounted in your block.

On your 1988 Ford Truck Bronco II 4WD 2.9L FI , the Oil Pressure Switch is located:

Under hood, center, lower engine area, mounted on front driver side of engine

They're only $6 to $15

I would suggest that you look for it, and check to make sure that the wiring is connected tightly. If that fails, replace it. IF that fails... let us know... there will be additional comments to follow.

May the force be with you.
