need a little more info on the truck. what year is it? whats the exact problem. Its possible the switch block mounted on top of the steering column under the dash is loose and will still let you turn the power on/off but when you go to start it, the spring pressure in the switch is enough to push it. you can pull the trim off from under the column and drop the column down with the bolts holding it up to the dash support and lay the steering wheel on your seat. You will be able to see where the start/key rod goes down the top of the column to this block thats held one with two bolts. the block itself is slotted so you can adjust it.

I *just* went thru this last week. I have a friend's dead 88' decorating my lawn because it has no spark. He too had been jumping the solenoid to get it running until one day he brought it to another guy's house for his father to look at. Unfortunately something happened to it while it was there and by the time it got to me it had no spark at all. When doing a KOEO test it kicked out a code for the NSS so that was replaced ($37 by the way). It wasn't really all that expensive (the clutch interlock switch only runs $12 for the same application. Go figure) and it took all of 10 minutes to do.

What exactly is the truck (this is good info to add to your signature. It helps people know just what you have when you have a question) and what is it doing ? Shift made an excellent point when he said that it may be an out-of-alignment ignition switch. The ign switch mounting holes are actually slots so that it can be properly aligned. The 88' I'm working on also had a bent ign actuator rod that was also part of the problem so you might be looking at more than just the NSS. You might consider doing the KOEO test and seeing what codes (if any) it has stored.

sorry bout that i should have put the year and stuff on the post. the truck is a red 91 silver edition and here is the full story on the truck. i drove it home one night from a buddys house and parked it in the drive way. the next morning i woke up and went to crank it and it wouldnt turn over. the fuel pump comes on and all the idiot lights and such. all the relays under the hood click. so i replaced the solenoid a week later and as soon as i did it cranked up. one time with the actual ignition switch and now im right back to where i was. but what yall are telling me i have never heard.

I had one of the silver anniversary trucks. Red w/gray leather everywhere right ? That's one I wish I still had.

Is the battery voltage good ? The starting circuit is made up of the battery, starter relay (solenoid), ignition switch & starter. If it isn't cranking you usually have a problem with one of those or the wiring. Where does the neg. cable from the solenoid ground ?
