I am having the windshield and molding replaced on my 1996 Bronco. Insurance is covering it but locating the molding is a problem. Originals are black and in fair shape but if ins is willing to buy new why not replace.

Ford still had the bottom and left side in stock but the 2 top and right side are not. If anyone knows of a source for new stock please pass it on.

I've read some of the posts on trim removal and will share the info with the tech so he doesn't ***** up what I have since they are hard to find.

Thanks

Seabronc,

Thank you for the info on LMC Truck unfortunately they don't have the sections I need in black. If I can't find the pieces I need over the weekend then we are going to go with what's on the truck.

Thanks again

yo,

Our SPONSOR here, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard has this;

Windshield Reveal Molding Black

Item #25182 - New

1978-96 Bronco

1977-79 F-Series

Black

BLACKREVEALMOLDING.JPG

Will do windshield or rear side windows on trucks.

Also hard top quarter window on broncos.

$20.00

I wonder if this is a snap-on, glueed-on or double-back tape job?

my 96 XL came w/black moulding too; one area was hit by a stone 3 days after we bought it new; the little chrome spec still shines away on a sunny day.

You can scuff the chrome & prime & paint it w/Rustoleum satin black matches

Miesk5,

I called Jeff's before I posted and they don't have them. The trim you mentioned is not for the windshield. I can reuse the originals, they are oxidated pretty bad the TX sun beat on them hard but I have been able to clean them up.

Since Insurance was paying I was looking for new parts plus if the installer damages them I'd have new but he will have to be carefull.

Thanks for your help.

A special tool is needed for the trim removal. It can be purchased at most autoparts stores. It looks like a flattened arrow head with a handle.

You lay it flat on the windshield and slip it under the moulding. Gently push it in till it stops, then slide it left or right till you feel it hit a clip, (stops) push the handle the opposite direction from where you felt the clip, ( feel a clip to the right of the tool = push the handle to the left) What you want to do is get the sharp edge of the arrow alongside of the clip and pull it back to release the moulding. Try it on a short piece first and you will see how the clips work. CAUTION! DO NOT PUSH UP OR DOWN, ROCKING THE TOOL ON THE WINDSHIELD. THIS COULD CRACK THE WINDSHIELD. KEEP THE TOOL FLAT ON THE WINDSHIELD. This isn't such a big deal if your replacing the windshield, but you should know if you need to remove the moulding any other time.

The sun here in Fla did a number on my black mouldings too. I repainted them twice with 2 different products, and it fadded quick. Then I used Duplicolor truck bed coating, (black). It took the sun for a whole year and showed no signs of fadeing or wear. It has a little texture, but it looks good. I had the running boards fade and the paint was generally getting poor, so I painted the whole Beast with the stuff a month ago. Looks good and I get lots of comments on how the trucks looks "stealthy" If you want the mouldings to shine more, you can wax the bedliner paint after about a week.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
