I have a 1995 Eddie Bauer Bronco. The rear window switch on the dash works. The key does not work to lower the window. I noticed that the left side, passenger side, of the tailgate does not appear to latch closed. How do I fix the latch? Would the left side latch prevent key switch from working the window? I know the safety is on the driver's side according to the other posts for this problem.

Yes, it will prevent the key switch from working. I would try operating it manually while the gate is down to see if it functions properly. Use your finger or a screwdriver to operate the latch as if it were closing on the stud mounted on the quarter panel. Close the latch and then try opening it with the latch lever in the middle of the tail gate. If it works properly, then the stud on the quarter panel may need adjusting. That is done with a Torx wrench or if desperate a set of channel locks, not the best tool for the job, so use a torx if you have one. I believe it is a T55.

Good luck,

Thanks, I'll definitely give that a try

Also check the bolts that hold the latch operating mechanism. Sometimes they loosen a bit and allow the mechanism to slide toward the passenger side. If they did you will probably be able to see where they were originally tightened down. If it has shifted, that causes problems with the latch and safety switch operation also. A common fix for the "safety switch" is to bypass it.

Good luck,

Tailgate is aligned, all latches are snug and working properly. Checked the "safety switch" and tried the jumper trick but window will still not roll down using the key in the tailgate. While this is not a big deal it would be nice if the window went down using the key. Kind of a pain in the a@* to have to use the dash switch all the time. Any suggestions other than "**** it up"? LOL

There are two fuses for the tail gate, one for the driver switch and one for the tail gate key switch. See attached diagram. You can also check for 12V on the black with white striped wire at the tail gate switch. It is hot at all times or at least should be

Good luck,

Are those fuses dedicated solely for the tailgate switches or do they support other components as well?

the fuse panel cover usually lists off all the components that run of the different fuse locations, if you can't find it there then your owners manual will have a diagram and list as well.
