lately my car's been running alright but i have a few concerns. when i turn the car on it revs up to 2000 rpms and slowly comes down. when i'm idling it goes to about 700rpm to 1000 i'll hear something click in the engine and it goes back down and when i put it in gear either drive or reverse it won't move until i'm at 1500 or 2000 rpms. when i drive and the gears shift it will be at 2500 or 3000 before it actaully shifts. ive been told i need to change my torque converter, i need a new throttle position switch and my clutch assembly was bad and i need a new transmission. i have very little car experience and i don't want to spend a couple thousand to fix something that would cost a few hundred. i have a 90 bronco w/302 engine

The engine idle changing sounds like you need to replace your Idle Air Control Valve. $50-$70 part at your local parts house. Easy to change. That should take care of your idle problems.

Tranny? Doubtful. It could be your torque converter though. If it's not engaging the gears from acceleration, there is a weak link between engine and tranny. Take it to another shop and have them look at it. Second, third and even fourth opinions don't hurt. Eventually you'll find somebody honest.

If you have high mileage on the tranny...it very well could be some bands and guts in the tranny. But it really doesn't sound like a transmission problem to me.

Oh yeah...duh...check your transmission fluid level first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
