I have a 93' ford bronco full size and whenever I turn it on the engine seems to really shake hard for a couple of seconds on and off, as i put it in drive and try to accelerate past 45 or so or get out of 2nd gear it seems when i push my foot down on the accelerator that it just sputters and wont accelerate or slowly creeps up to a higher speed. what could the problems be? possibly fuel filter? oil change? something more serious?

Is it carburetor or fuel injected?

It could be a clogged fuel filter. If its carburetor its more likely to be a clogged jet or circuit in the carburetor. If it has been a while or your not sure when it was last cleaned out it wont help and its fairly easy. The hardest part is normally finding a carb # (which should be on the carb or look it up in a chilton book). After that buying a kit is easy and fairly cheap. The kit should include a diagram/instructions. If thats not the problem then I'm not sure but I'll ask around.

my guess is its an efi being a 93. Tune up first and foremost. spark plugs, wires distributor cap and rotor, and fuel filter.

then if problem persists begin testing fuel pressure, ignition timing, and throttle position sensor.

yo bronconewbie9369,

WELCOME!

Try a Self Test for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s by my pal, BroncoJoe19

http://broncozone.com/topic/14269-code-reader/page__pid__74587__mode__threaded

The engine temperature must be greater than 50° F for the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test and greater than 180° F for the Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.

Run it around to heat the engine up and shift thru all gears incl Reverse. Then turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or in Neutral for a Manual & release clutch.

Do Key On Engine Off (KOEO) portion first.

Look Codes up in my broncolinks.com site using the new Search function.

And Post em here according to:

KOEO

&

KOER

Joe also shows how to ck for vacuum leak.

Here is a typical List of possible causes;

So, we try to do the Self Test first and then vac leaks because they are @ top of List in most troubleshooting Category steps and are FREE
