It has just started doing this, fluid level is good and looks like new, temp has dropped to about zero degrees F, is that why? Do I need to flush the tranny? After driving awhile it eventually shifts into all the gears and works OK. Contaminated ATF?

That is common, the tranny needs to reach operating temp before it works properly. Your seals may be hard and they take a bit longer to soften up or whatever they do. Wouldnt hurt to change out the fluid and filter. I would recommend royal purple.

Is there a way to warm up the tranny before driving? Because the engine running in park doesnt warm the tranny, and it sucks driving it in 1st gear only especially with the engine cold. The only thing I can think of is putting the t case in N and the tranny in D, that way it goes nowhere but the tranny is spinning.

Do the filter a fluid change, might cure your problem. Use a seal softening tranny fluid additive as well.
