Hi guys;

I have been quet for a while. I bought a 73 with a shot 302 in November. Clean mostly rust free Ranger model. 302, Ford 9 inch rear, Dana 44 front end, 3 1/2 inch lift.

The restoration is coming along:

To date:

- Removed the body and disassembed the entire chassis

- blasted and repainted the chassis with eastwood rust encapsulator and Chassis Black

- cleaned and painted the front and rear axles, replaces seals, etc.

- Did the WH front disk upgrade

- Installed new tie rod and draglink

- Installed new stainless brake lines

- Rebuilt rear brakes including blasting and painting the backing plates

- Rebuilt and painted the drivelines and transfer case

- New urethane bushings all around

- Doetch Tech shocks (8)

- Cleaned and rebuilt (new seals and clutches) the C4 trans

- Rebuilt the heads (new valves, seals and valve seats)

- Edelbrock Perfromer intake manifold

- New Holley 600 CFM 4BBL carb

- Cleaned, painted and re-assembled the engine (installed)

- Re-skinned the doors

- Welded the trim holes and patched the rusty spots on the front clip

- Worked out all the dents

- Mickey Thompson Classic wheels and 32x11.5 Baja MTX radials (its mostly for the street)

I just borrowed a soda blaster, and my big (BIG!! 80 gal 18 cfm) compressor arrives tomorrow, so the body will be down to bare metal by the end of the month..Then it's on to paint and final assembly.

I plan:

- Headers with ****** aeroflow mufflers

- WH polished aluminum steering column with Le Carra wheel

- Painless wire harness

- Nickel plate the door hinges, hood latches, door latches, tail gate bezel and handle and the spare tire hardware

- MSD Billet Distributor

- MSD 6A Ignition

- Power brake MC

- Stainless hood and windshield hinges

- Safari top

- New Interior

- Kickin' stereo

Should be wheelin' by summer.

Here are the pics!

How much money are you investing?

I'll end up with about $12K-$14K in it, including the base vehicle.

This is, of course not counting all of my labor. I have done all of my own work, except the valve job. If I had anyone do this, the cost would easily double.

I did a 65 Mustang Coupe a few years back...total stripdown, painted in my garage, etc. Came out show quality for about $12K (I got the base car super cheap!); solt that one for $14K..so I figure I was earning about $1.50 per hour or so.. This is a hobby, not a vocation!

Lot of money, but a great job, congratulations. In my 76 project I'm trying not to pass 6k.

You doing a body off?

What I have found is pulling the body is such a huge thing that you tend to fix everything that can be fixed, because it is your only good shot at it.

I have about $3.5K in the chassis with the wheels, tires, brakes, shocks, etc. The engine will top out at about $2.5K (head rebuild, cam, gaskets, timing chain , oil pump, carb, intake manifold, aircleaner, hoses, radiator, etc, and the body will be around 3K with paint, weatherstripping, body panels, etc...

I adds up too quickly!!
