My truck is running terrible. It is missing and just running very rough at idle and under load. i have replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, ignition coil. I have also pulled every connection and gave them each a good coating of dielectric grease. It is also running VERY rich. Im at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you checked the basic timing? You need to remove the SPOUT connector before checking and adjusting the timing. The factory setting is on the emissions sticker, probably 10 deg BTDC but often 12 to 13 deg BTDC works better. A sensor that is giving bad information to the computer may be why it is running rich. Check your codes before doing anything, they may point you right to the culprit.

Good luck,

:)>-

I just recently adjusted the timing so im fairly certain that that is not the issue. How do you check for codes?

OUCH...!

I hate to be the barer of bad news but that sounds like my eng. when it blew the rings out of #5 cyl.

Also.., the timing chain could be an issue.....

Like Seabronc said..., get the codes..... Auto Zone & most other parts stores will read it/them for free............ :D/

Could be maybe you didn't put the wires on the cap correctly? I remember when I did that, it ran rough because two wires were on the wrong posts..

no it ran fine for a about a month after i changed all the plugs and wires. i did get the codes pulled and i had a list of about 24 different ones. most are low voltage to this sensor and low voltage to that sensor. im going to check the voltage on the ECM tomorrow. ive got a feeling that my ECM is bad. at least thats what im hoping.

yo J,

Suggest you pull Codes again yourself because too many parts store folks fail to do both the Key On Engine OFF (KOEO) & the Key On Engine Running (KOER) portions; they usually say the Key On Engine Running (KOER) "isn't necessary";

a DIY'er by our good friend, BroncoJoe @ http://broncozone.com/topic/14269-code-reader/page__p__74587entry74587

Post the codes here; sort em by KOEO and KOER;

I run it around to heat the engine up and shift thru all gears incl Reverse.

then; turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Do KOEO portion first

For Key On Engine Running (KOER) portion, the engine has to be @ normal operating temp.

Post any codes found here or look em up in my broncolinks.com site using the Search feature

And as our buddy Seabronc advised;

ok well ive had an interesting developement. I cleared all the codes on the ECM and now all of a sudden my Bronco is running fine. Does this make sense at all? could resetting the codes sort of be like a reboot for the computer? Im still a little worried to drive it because i just dont feel like this actually fixed the problem. Any ideas?

Well that lets you know a sensor is either the problem, or a sensor found the problem.

Drive it..check codes often. They'll rack up again I'm sure. At least this way if you drive it for 10, 20, 30, 100 miles there wont be as many codes and it'll narrow it down for you.
