Lift gate handle

I need a liftgate handle for a 1984 B2. I have found several aftermarket for 85 and up, does anyone know if this will work on the 84? It does not have a lift glass, just a one piece glass and gate.

I read an article some years back about an upgrade for the B2 lift gate handle. Sorry, I can't find it now, but i did it to my 86 B2, and I am impressed.

Find an Explorer in a wrecking yard with the gate handle still on it, remove the handle and keep all of the hardware. Take your old handle off of your B2 and compare the 2.

You will see right away that the X handle will not fit without modifying the holes in the B2 lift gate. Very carefully enlarge the outside holes to 3/4" and install the X handle,

bolt it on the same as it was when you removed it from the X.

Problem is solved and upgraded in one step.

Plus it no longer takes both hands to turn the handle.

It won't mater which handle you get, with/without lift glass, they are both the same only difference is the writing on the handle and the fact that the lift glass handle can be turned both directions.
