Hi all. As some of you know, I am in the process of restoring my 85 full size bronco to original.

Before I started it had headers, offenhauser intake, 4 brl carb and no emissions components. It ran good with this setup but unfortunately its not legal for the road. I got 95% of the original stuff from the junkyard. I installed the original exhaust and intake manifold and 1 brl carb. I put on a smog pump, diverter/bypass valve and hooked up all the vacuum lines. Hooked up the inline fuel filter. The engine cranked for awhile till the filter and carb filled up and then, THE BEAST CAME ALIVE AGAIN :D/ . It smoked a little for awhile but I figure that was because I did not clean out the exhaust and intake manifold before installing it and it was probably just burning off any crap that may have been in there from the junkyard. It doesn't hesitate when I step on the throttle and comes back to idle with out a problem. And by the way, it's running on its own, I did not hook up anything to the computer yet. That will be the next step. It stoped smoking and runs just alittle ruff at idle so I need to do alittle fine tuning. It may idle better when the computer is hooked up.

I have a question. When I installed the smog pump I had to use the fan pulley that was being used by the a/c compressor(the a/c didn't work anyway). When I do decide to get the a/c working again, do I need to get a short belt so I can run the smog pump off of the alternator pulley? The alternator pulley is a double pulley.

Thanks. Bill

Yes, you should be able to run the smog pump pulley with a short belt from the alternator pulley. THat's how my 84 351W was set-up originally. What engine do you have in the 85? IF it has a carb, there should be no "computer" or ECM. That was started in 86 with fuel injection. JSM84

P.S.: Glad to hear the engine is running, hope it passes the sniffer test!!!

justshootme84, My 85 has the 4.9L inline 6 carbureted engine. Yes, it does have a computer

(eec 4) the carb is a feedback type carb. From what I understand 85 was the transition from carbureted to fuel injection. They used the eec 4 computer with the carbureted and fuel injected engines. And as far as emissions inspection, here in Pa. an 85 vehicle only has one actual test and that is the gas cap leak test. Its only a visual inspection on the rest of the emissions components. The components have to be there and look like they are hooked up, they don't test to see if they are working. The check engine light doesn't even have to work. It can be on all the time or not on at all.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

O.K., now I see your signature with the 300I-6, so you're right about the 'puter. I'd say you're also lucky if you don't have to take an actual smog test, too. My Uncle and I are having hella time with his '83 F-250 passing the local test. Apparently, his year and model never had a cat.conv., so he failed one inspection just for that. He's using some of the emissions parts from my 84, and they are more of a 'visual" than in working order like your's. Good Luck, JSM84
