this is my first bronco with auto locking hubs.......how easy, or hard is it to convert them to manual locking hubs, and what is the "sensor" elimination procedure

my first reply but *** for tat

We changed the automatic hubs for manual ones on our 92 and it was just the physical

change out. There was no sensor to have to do anything or change. No problem.

Often left them locked because it was a pain to get in and out to lock them when we are in snow.

The big issue was the little tiny bolt heads rusted in the chrome hub. We ended up drilling these

out and buying new bolts when reassembling (coated with anti-seze).

The conversion is pretty easy. Manuals are more reliable than the auto hubs which seem to fail just when you need them. Most people go for the conversation because auto hubs won't engage if you are already stuck since they require approximately 10 ft. of forward or backward motion to engage or disengage.

Good luck,

:)>-

Here goes anybody correct me if i'm wrong....You'll mainly be changing your auto-hubs out for manuel a fairly easy convert...Your t-case will still be push button but you'll have to step out and lock in the hubs....like seabronc said a lot more reliable set than auto's....Also a lot easier to maintain....A couple of my friends with auto-hubs have converted to manuels.... You're pretty much right, except that the transfer case could be push button as you said, or it could be manual.

I have a manual transfer case and auto hubs on my '90.

not sure if it applies but one thing i ran into when i was swaping out my hubs was this warning message i kept finding anywhere that sold warn hubs.... it says When Replacing Automatic 3 Hole Cap ***** Hubs, You Must Purchase Corresponding Spindle Nut Conversion Kit. not sure if your model has that 3 hole cap deal but just food for thought.

I did the same upgrade on my '95 and it was just the swapping of the caps and internal components. No cutting drilling wiring, NADA. It took me an hour to do both. on a scale of 1-5 its an easy 2. I like the reliability of the manual locking hubs but I like the push button 4x4 even more. I still have to get out to lock the hubs (boo hoo, who cares?) but I like hitting a button knowing its going in to the gear right, for some reason all of my previous trucks with 4x4 had manual shifters and i would always "grind" the gears at least once a trip.

That's what I went with. It went well. They don't turn as easy when engaging as the Mile Markers on my brothers Blazer but its not a bad thing just difference between brands.

It is not that the whole truck needs to move 10' to lock just the axles turning will do the trick to lock the hubs. The problem is when they are broken you do not know about it until you need them. Only need movement of the tires to unlock the hubs.

just to add in another 2c. ive used autohubs, 3 different warn hubs(same hubs 3 different trucks) and superwinch hubs. I thought the superwinch hubs were nicer units. They seemed to be very well made units. I destroyed a set because i had a wheel bearing go out on me on the highway.
