Just got a new ignition key cylinder and it will not seat all the way. I even exchanged for another one thinking that there might have been a defect in the casting. The old one, that was old and not working correctly, goes in and out freely when in the "run" position, after depressing the pin. With the new cylinder in the exact same position, it only goes in one way because of the groves and the retaining pin, it will slide about 9/10ths of the way and stop, just enough that it will not lock into place. I have changed several over the years and this one stumps me.

yo AL!

WELCOME!

Due to outrageously BAD QUALITY junk from Imported (CHINA most likely) it may take a bit of wiggling it front-back till everything lines up.

Qny chance actuator rod is worn a bit?I used to get in there & **** actuator with silicone lubricant

Thanks for the welcome! It was one of my thoughts also, one of the reasons I exchanged for a second one. I have some silicone that I can, and will, try. It just feels too tight at the very end and I have tried a little kind persuasion. Thanks again. I will try it at let you know.

As of today I have tried 3 different cylinders. The last one I put so much grease on you could fry chicken. So far, all three, from 2 different shops do the same thing. the old lock slides in and out with NO trouble. My eyes are not what they used to be but I swear there is no difference, casing wise, between the two, LOL.

Hello there. I am having the same problem with my new ignition cylinder. It slides all the way in and i can feel it fitting and I start turning the key to the off position but I can't take the key out. The retaining pin gets pushed out into the hole and the setup seems to be secure. But the key is way stuck. No amount of shaking and wiggling would get it out. The reason I wanted to change the old cylinder is because it would turn without the key, now I have the cylinder installed but the key is forever in there. I wonder which is better. In any case, I would really love it if someone here knows what it might be or if they know how to fix this seemingly simple problem. Thanks.

Well, thanks for stepping on my post with your trouble first of all. Mine is now fixed with the help of those on this site.. post your own new one and I'm sure the great people on this site will try and help, I wish I could but I'm not quite sure. Did it line up correctly? or did you have to force it in. From what my minimal experience with this is, is that the actuator gears have to be in the correct position, not just the cylinder in the run position for you to get the key out. my trouble started when I knew everything was in the perfect ignition settings to run, alt, start ext..

yo,

Glad you got it in! But not so happy about da parts' quality.

I posted the Troy Ford via Google link in the other forum; I saved over $200.00 on genuine Ford MC parts recently not incl S&H and 7% state sales tax; got the IAC and DFPE for $100.oo total instead of $321.00 from local or other Ford dealers & parts places incl main sponsor and Rock Auto.

See ya around here again Big Al!

Al
