ignition bazel

How do you remove the ignition from the dash on a early Bronco so the dash can be painted? I tried several ways with no success.

Been a while., but, as I recall., there's a large nut on the back side (fr. under dash)

Once it's backed off.., the whole switch will move in further (again fr. the back-side)

This will allow the benzel to move out of its locking slots., & then will un-*****.

Still no luck. There is a small nut I removed that but it doesn't seam to help remove the bazel. There is a spring around the switch on the back side looks like it it for tension, I tried pushing and turning but with no avail. The bazel will turn with the mechanism. Any other suggestions?

I have the answer for you...

The ignition cylinder is pressured against the back of the dash by a very hefty spring, and the bezel is the retainer, so to speak. Hold the bezel with one hand and push in on the back of the ignition switch HARD and turn to the left. I may be wrong on the direction, but being that I just took mine out three days ago... it should work pretty easy.

Be careful not to break the wiring harness adapter on the back... they do not sell that any more, unless you are buying a new wiring harness.

You have to use a paper clip or something that will fit in the small hole on the key cylinder. Push the clip in and turn the key, that will release the key cylinder with the key in it. Pull it out the front, then you can push in from behind the dash and remove the rest of the ignition from the front bezel. Been a couple years since I did it but i'm pretty sure that's how you do it.
