hello all,i have an old '82 bronco and it has a really good running 300 6cyl with an np 435 4 spd and 3.00 gears with 31 inch tires.....my question is im looking at getting a bumper pull travel trailer about 20 feet in length and i was wondering what gear ratio i would need to have enough power to pull this on the road...but i dont want it to be so low that i cant drive the speed limit when im just out cruising...any suggestions would be appreciated

i think you'll be fine if you purchased a set of 4.10's

i thought about 4.10's but since the 300 isnt a high rpm engine i thought it might be too low but i guess its worth a shot..im parting out an '85 f-150 4x4 and it has a 9 inch in it aswell with 3.50 gears but i wasnt sure if that was going to be enough change from the 3.00's to make it worth my time

i would consider swapping out the 3rd member with 3.50 gears before i made a decision about the 4.10's if unsure.

4.10s with that 4spd would be insanely low with 31 inch tires. I would reccommend also trying 3.50's They are plentiful because everyone that has them wants 4.10's (LOL) One thing, if you decide 4.10's and its too low you can run 33's and that would bring your rpms down a bit. A friend of mine has an 84 Bronco with 36's and 4.10 gears, he finds it too low with that tranny. He never uses low range offroad, thats a plus I guess.

ill try the 3.50's since i have them ...thankyou guys for helping me out....my next question is this truck im parting out has a fairly fresh 302,its has ALOT less miles on it than the 6cyl and i have everything i need for the conversion ..is it worth the swap? i know the 6 is a torque monster and all ill be gaining is the v8 sound its just an idea because i have a '69 ford f100 in the back that is slick but has a worn out 240 6 cyl and the 300 would be perfect for that truck and finding 302 engine perches for that truck are next to impossible...

my 85 has a 300 and np435 combo. im pretty sure it has 3.55 gears and it will pull anything. on the highway ive burried my 85mph speedo. The truck really wakes up between 2500 and 3500rpm. The big choke is the single bbl carb. If you get a carb that can flow more, the engine will rev a bit higher.

My gas mileage sucked but i towed a 3000lb car and felt like nothing was behind me on the highway up and down the mountains.
