I don't come on this site much, but thanks for all possible help.

I have a 1996 Ford Bronco 5.8 w/ manual locking hubs. The hub and rotor is one piece. I'm trying to replace the rotors. I have the locking hubs off, the spindle nut off..that's where my problem is. Behind the spindle nut there is another nut with like 15 little holes in it. How the bloody **** do I get that or rotor off?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. The piece with the holes in it is not a nut, it is like a washer of sorts. It should just slide off it has a tab that matches a groove in the spindel that keeps it from spinning. Once it is off there is another nut just like the first one that must be removed behind it is the outter bearing. The wheel studs will have to be hammered out to separate the rotor from the hub. This can be done without dammaging the studs so they can be reused.

Is there a special way to remove this washer. Do I have to do something with the "tab"? Thx

My 95 did not have the normal washer with the holes that was for manual hubs . Mine had auto hubs the 3 bolt style . On that one there was a bunch of little holes around the face of the nut which was countersunk a bit . There was a half circle clip with a pin sticking straight out of the back that slid into one of those holes then the half circle went around the face of the spindle nut and slid into the countersunk face of the nut the auto hub assembly then held that from walking out . Can you takle a pic of what you have ? If it is the old style then like everyone else said you must wiggle that washer forward and it will come off allowing you to remove the back nut . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

the washer just comes out, just grab with needle nose pliers, you have to make sure when you put it back togather that you take note of the little pin on the inside nut, it goes in one of the holes in the washer to keep the nut from turning. i have seen a lot of these put in backwards or not lined up and it can ruin the nut and washer.

if have removed the "guts" including the "c" clip that is just inside the hub (it is the the size of the end of a writing pen that goes all the way around the hub, about 1/2 inch inside or so of the hub) , and then the outer bearing nut, hit the rotor with a hammer a few times but not to hard, the washer will come out with the outer bearing. if the washer is in front of the bearing nut, get a paperclip or a "pick" and take it out then remove outer bearing nut

be carefull when the hub finally does break loose as it will want to fall off the spindle.

make sure you replace the grease seal and repack the bearings with grease before reinstalling them.

Like everybody else has said, once the hub is off, bang the tire studs out with a hammer and then r&r the rotor, then drive the studs back in.

here is a trick to set the studs. get a short piece of pipe from the hardware/lumber yard, about 1 inch long. get a large washer the right size of your studs. turn your wheel stud nut backwards (flat side down) put the pipe, washer over the stud then the stud nut. tighten the nut, setting the stud.
