How Do I Know Which PCM?

i have a 4.9L 88 bronco (full size). I need to replace the computer but Im not sure which one to order. at my local auto store parts they have multiple PCM to choose from but im not sure if any one of them will do. Any help is appreciated!

Hey Kyle,

You need to pull the old unit and check for the ID#. Something that starts with E8TF.....or similar.

We found the ID number but it did not match any that my auto store pulled up

Sorry let me correct. The previous owner did not know what he was doing. Since we did not find a match, we guessed that the previous owner bought the wrong PCM. How would i find out what PCM will work in my truck.

what is the ID #. I can't guarantee it but I may be able to match it with something.

A chance is to take your VIN and all the vehicle info, ( engine, trans, axel ratios, equipment, etc) to a friendly Ford Dealer parts pro. They may be able to cross referance for you.

Hey Kyle,

E8TF-12A650-CF2A...is an ECU for 89-89 Ford F150 and Bronco w/ 4.9/ 6cyl 300... and auto trans. Fed reg.

Ok, does that mean that if i order one from my auto store(has reman. shipped out) that it would work? cause i dont want to spend 100 or so dollars for a useless PCM

That you would have to ask them. Remember they were the parts guys that couldn't research a part number.

Personally I would go to a diffenent parts store, and see what part they come up with.
