i have a 78 bronco with a 460. it flies up the hill but craps out near the top, when i let off the gas it returns to idle.it seems fine on the flats. the holly 850 has two float bowls, does that mean it is a double pump? any ideas would be great

Didn't the early broncos have some kind of fuel reservoir in the fuel line so that they could manuver on steep inclines?

it,s definately a steep hill in a sand pit but clearly doable.as far as the fuel reservoir in the fuel line, i haven't heard of that but will try and investigate

You need to install a rubber line from one bowl vent to the next and make a hole in the highest point of the rubber line so that the bowls can breathe. Look at the Holley truck avenger carburetor ( i think thats what its called) to get the idea I am talking about. If you are on a steep incline the fuel is sitting at the back of the front fuel bowl and plugging the bowl vent. It is an old drag racing trick and then Holley made a carburetor with a steel line and vents in it. While you are doing that you also need to get one of the plastic air horn vents that goes inside the bowl. Its a plastic rectangle piece that goes into the rectangle hole in the metering block. You need to drill a very small hole in the top of the metering block and then a small dowel goes in through the top and holds the plastic air horn in place. If your carburetor is tuned right, you will never have a problem on inclines again. Hope this makes sense...good luck.
