hey what's up bronco zone i just found this forum on broncograveyard.com so i figured i'd check it out and i like it lol,

anyways i have a 1986 XLT 5.0 EFI, AOD, stock x-fer case, i've had her for about a year now and her age is starting to show 174k miles and I'm getting about 9-10mpg in town 11-12 hyway.

my rear window went out on me a little bit back got stuck down and was fun as **** to get back up =/ this seems to be a common problem on there trucks I'm thinking it's my motor i pulled it out put power to it and got nothing my weatherstriping is F'ed on my tailgate so i think it got wet mabey?

also every now and then my trucks idle will jump up and down between 6 and 9k rpms while in drive and in park sometimes when it's cold sometimes when its heated up it's done this since i got it even after a tune up anyone know what could be causing this or how i can get the codes off an 86?

Surging idle is often a vacuum leak, but it could be a number of other things such as a malfunctioning IAC, or TPS.

To pull codes for an '86 is easy, all you need is a little jumper wire, a voltmeter and the ability to count to ten.

Hey Thunderhorse i also have an 86 pretty similiar to yours and i had the same problem with the surging idle and it took me awhile but found out that i had a vaccum leak and a bad TP Sensor at the same time so i would really check them first. good luck and have fun
