Help with motor failure

Hey anyone that can guide me where to start looking would help. I was driving my bronco and it stalled while sitting at a light when I tried to refire it turned over but made an aweful grinding noise then would no longer turn over. Tried to turn belts by hand two guys couldn't move them? where should I start nothing came throught the pan no excessive oil leaks???? b-(

Motor history would be a clue.... (old, dying, sick, etc.)

Over heated..? Oil level/press. ..?

What trannie...? auto/stick..?

clutch explode..? auto trannie lock-up..?
