I have an 88 Bronco II 4wd V6 with manual tranny. We couldn't get it to run so we replaced the engine control computer with one from another Bronco II. It will run now but the engine will cut off for just a split second, faster than you can blink, and then go again. The numbers from the computers did not match. Could this be the problem, do we need to just buy a new one with matching numbers or does it not matter?

tap the relay on the passenger side fender well, next to the map sensor, and see if it doesn't do the same thing, if so, we're in the same boat!!!!! lol!

there are three relays, one for air conditioner, one for fuel pump, and one for the ecm. if the one for the ecm, when tapped solidly, causes multiple sensors to click as if running self-diagnostics test, and the engine shuts off for the split second that it does, then either you need to find the right ecm or get a new relay....

or a bad ground connection

We have replaced the fuel pump and ecm relays so many times from them burning up! The truck will idle all day but once you move it is when it starts cutting off. Going Saturday to buy a new computer for it. There is a wire under the hood that we're not sure where it belongs. Apparently the guy who owned it before had someone work on it and cut and spliced wires all over under the hood. Good to know we're not the only one's with this problem! It sucks.
