most likely that's the I.A.C. (idle air control valve) on the side of the throttle body sticking. sometimes you can clean the gunk out and unfreeze them, but sometimes you can't.

The TPS does not control Idle speed. That is only caused by either 1: a vacuum leak 2: some knuckle head messed with the stop ***** on the throttle plate. 3: the IAC valve is sticking or 4: the timing is off.
Anyone have picture of what Jersey is talking about I know dums ars question,Just would help a newbee I am new to Broncos

Ok 1 - more silly question, (Figure I'm online noone can see me),But my wife I were thinking if it could be a throttle cable or because its so cold in Michigan right now .its sticking .I don't know just seems alittle crazy last night it goes nutz today it seems OK.Just like I said before,When parked and I gas it ,When the RPM's go up they are kind of slow to come down , Is that kind of normal ???Thanks again guys I feel alittle silly with some of these basic questions,I'm more of a body guy then engine .

Intermittant problems are the worst to figure out.

A little WD-40 on moving parts is usually a good idea.

Once I thought I had a sticking accellerator, and when I looked down, my floor carpet was lying on the gas pedal. So the moral of that story is anything is possible.

Thanks a lot .Its cool between this post and the other post on surging,I am collecting alot of great advice...On another post it almost sounded like sometimes its normal that when you jack up the RPMs by accellerating that it may take A SECOUND OR SO TO KICK BACK DOWN...( expecially when parked

Would you suggest that I hit all the moving parts with alittle WD-40 ?

Sure a little lubrication wouldn't hurt.

I would still take a look at the IAC. You know how these things go... they break at the worst possible moment.

IT seems that your truck is behaving very differently than your original post. I would bet that the problem will return, so at least now you have an idea of where to look, or things to check.
