ok so im tryin to change my ball joints on my 95 bronco and i cant figure out how to get the spindle off.i have the abs sensor dust cover off i have the studs out and i have the dust shield for the brakes unbolted.i dont know if the spindle is being held in with a retaining clip or what but it will not budge.also i have never done ball joints before so if anyone can tell me how those are suppose to come out it would be greatly appreciated.i know the upper comes out first but the book says u have to take out the retaining clip but the ball joint is up in its houseing and i can not feel the clip so i dont know if you have to drill it out or what but i know whatever i was doing wasnt right so any help would be nice.thanks!

I have never actually done the work myself but my ball joints are also in need of replacing. I asked a couple of mechanics and they told me it requires droping the axle in order to replace them. That's why I haven't had it done yet. Because It's kinda expensive due to labor costs.

Ian did a nice job!

Especially;

Step 6: Spindle Removal

Remove the spindle nuts using a 1/2" drive 17mm socket and a breaker bar.

Once nuts are removed, it may be possible to knock the spindle loose with a block of wood and a hammer. I however, had to get a spindle puller.

Spindle puller AutoZone p/n 27104

Slide Hammer AutoZone p/n 27033

They ran me $45 for both pieces.

It simply screws on to the spindle. Very easy and quick to use.

Here is what you will be looking at once the spindle is removed

Maybe a prev owner used a snap ring that often comes with a replacement ball joint? I is prob rusted into place;

As Ian wrote; he broke a breaker bar!
