well i have a 1987 bronco with a 5.8 efi. and just wondering what kind of things i should know or look out for. like when i turn some times at a taking off there will be a slight knocking sometimes from the front passanger side tire area. also. what is a "ttb" and is is it good or bad. i saw it on here somewhere on a 87 and was wondering if thats what mine is. also. my main question is. all the spec sheets and everything i have looked at it says from what i can tell is that the 87s are carburated and mines not. does that sound right?

TRANSMISSION HELP

my transmission will slip into like a nuetral gear. but only when its cold and only for like two min or so? what can i do without having to completely re build or replace.

thanks for all the help

things you should be looking for is rust or rot on the bottom of the tailgate and rear wheel wells, the knocking probably is the radious arm bushings, have someone turn the wheel lock to lock and look at the radious arms.....if they move around a lot you need new bushings, could also be a tie-rod end or ball joint, the 87 model year featured the 5.8L in both carburated and EFI.....the term TTB is short for Twin Traction Beams, every bronco 4x4 from 1980-1996 has them, its part of your front suspension....as far as the trans slipping/nuetral gear condition, first and foremost check the fluid, if it needs to be changed get the gasket and filter kit and change the fluid, that may or may not correct your problem

Like 92' said TTB is short for Twin Traction Beam, it is a good setup and can run up to a 35 with no trouble, MissKitten runs 37's and it holds up.

thank you guys for all ur help.. all my fluid is new in the trans. ill try the new filter option. i know when i put lucas in it it does great for like a month with no problem then starts doing it again. im used to chevys so ford is all new to me. but its my first ford and i have to say. its pretty freakin awesome. not to mention way better looking then the blazer. as for the tires. for now im just gonna lift 6 inch and put thirty fives. that seems to be my safest option from what i hear. but as soon as i get the money im puttin 1 ton everything. then tire size wont be an issue. now i just got to figure out my so called " my engine is dumping fuel into my catylitic converter problem" so im told. thanks everyone

i just wanna ad that the rear axle will not hold up to 37's without an upgrade
i'll even one up you on that crappy statement

i have been running the 8.8 and the ttb for the past 2 yrs with 37" tires and i have a chipped tooth off the ring gear (not that i ever recommend anyone putting this theroy to test) and everything is still holding up

and i'm far from easy on the truck
