Ive been looking around since I have to replace my main fuel tank. I figure ill have to replace my aux tank also. So, Ill be getting as large as I can. Also based on what came OUT of my main tank, I think Ill be replacing my entire fuel system. Im considering using braided fuel line from one end to the other. Im not a big fan of metal lines.

What Im wondering is this: Does anyone have a layout of the fuel system and lines?

My main tank has the filler spout and 3 other spouts that are all about the same size, small. 2 on top one down about midway on the front by a plug. Im assuming the plug is the level sending unit. I know one of the lines is feed, another is vent, but is the 3rd a return?

Also, the main/aux switch... I have 2? There is one on the floor under the driver seat that is very stiff to move. Im guessing this is the actual fuel valve. The other is on the dash and seems more electrical. Is this to switch between the tanks sending units so the gauge reads for that tank?

Is the only pump in the system the one at the engine or is there an electric pump somewhere?

When I disassembled my carb (Holley) there was a screen in the inlet. Is this the only fuel filter or is there one somewhere else?

I know, I know... lots of newbie questions. LOL!! Please forgive me as shyness at asking dumb questions was kinda beat out of me in tech school. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

---CORRECT---

"Is the only pump in the system the one at the engine.?"

---YES--- except some PO's are known to add/swap in an elect. pump.

"Is this the only fuel filter or is there one somewhere else?"

Stock/factory had an in-line filter just after the pump.

Ford had to put a bunch of "monkey-motion" in the fuel delivery & fume recovery system in the later EB's most of which you don't really need these days..., depending on your location.

Basically, there's a (plastic) line fr. the rear tank, along/attached to the frame, to the tank switch-over valve under seat. Another (I believe it was rubber) line fr. the aux. tank to the valve.

The plastic line is great & bullet-proof. You can air blow it clean..., or shoot carb cleaner in & blow it clean.

Later year EB's may have come factory with a metal line..

Most new aft. mkt. tanks are marked & set-up for all possible engines incl. FI. So you will have some tubes to plug. Some new tanks are basic & stock.

Clear as mud..? :-B

Actually makes good sense. Im planning on the 23gal main tank, just havent decided who to buy it from yet and if I want the strap or track version. I may get the track version so I can add a body lift later and scoot it up a tad.

I havent made up my mind on the aux tank yet, but I think ill be sticking with the cheaper plastic oem style. Payin over double the $$$ for only about 50% more fuel (8g to 12g) isnt makin me rush out to buy, ya know? Ill have to trace all my lines a little closer once I get the aux tank out and see whats what.

Hey Blood,

One word of caution. Not all braided line is rated for the fuel presure needed for a FI system. If you go that route be sure to get high-preasure lines. Even if you are running a carb now, you may decide later to go with one of the new aftermarket FI systems. If you use an electric fuel pump that pushes 20-40# of preasure before the regulator, it would be nice to know all the lines could already handle the extra preasure.

Good Luck

Actually, if the aux tank hasn't been abused.., they can be disassembled, cleaned up & re-used. The sending unit hole is the key.., if it is in good shape & seals up well, (new O-ring seal) then it can be put back in service.

I like that "Sherman-Tank" .., & with 23 gal. -- the aux becomes an emergency reserve.

Hey Ron, thanks for the heads up. However, I will definately leave this one with a carb. Im kinda old fashioned that way. If I ever do decide to get a FI bronco, it will be a '96 with a 5spd. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Bob, yeah, with only an 8g capacity, the aux tank is definately a "get to the next gas station" tank. Which leads me to ask, how do you have 65g of fuel on board? Do you have a drag tank mounted in your bed or what? The 2 places I hunt are both 100 miles +/- from me and if this 351w gets 10-12mpg (hopefully) Ill need all 23g to get there and back for a weekend of hunting. So more fuel is a huge bonus. However, I was thinkin about a couple 5g milspec cans in a carrier on the rear bumper.

I had a feel'n this was going to come up...!! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I aquired a rather large (alum.) inboard boat tank some time back. As luck would have it, it fit perfect between my wheel-wells.., & the tailgate closes fine. I built a wood frame to rest it on.., & welded up a bracket/strap to hold it down. I installed a shut-off valve then ran a line thru the bed/floor to my elect. tank switch-over valve. (It's mounted to the inside of frame near the rear wheel.)

This tank holds 41gal. & doubles as a back seat..!

Main tank is 14gal.

If you look at my gallery pics, you'll see two 5gal. fuel cans. I rigged a fuel pump to the one rack & can pump fuel to my rig.., or one of the other rigs out on the trail. (No need to remove the cans) They call me the "roll'n mobil station"...!!!

WHY..??

I was always the guy "white-knuckle'n" it home out of this vast desert, hope'n for a gas station. (originally I had only one 14gal. tank & one 5gal. can.) All the other rigs have two tanks.

No more sweating/white knuckles.......
