I am looking for the dimensions for a 78-79 Ford Bronco 9" axle housing. I need the housing width measurements form bearing ****** to bearing ******. (Not the axle ****** width). Also if the pinion is centered or offset to the passenger side And if it is how much. I am building a fab 9" for my truck at school and do not have it with me to get the dimensions.

It's a center pinion. I've never seen an offset pinion rear axle, every offset I've seen has been a front axle and that's always due to the offset required by the transfer case. It wouldn't make any sense to offset the rear (now of course this doesn't even *begin* to address stuff like custom Currie Enterprises front 9" applications). The *bearing* ******-to-****** measurement is pretty odd, the standard width measurements are generally either spring pad-to-spring pad or outer-****** to outer-******. About the only thing most guys are asking about the bearings are if it's a large or small bearing axle (and you can tell that by ck'ing the backing plate). The ******-to-****** distance for 73'-79' F-trucks & Broncos is 59-3/4", just how that converts into the distance you're looking for I have no idea.

Scott,

No worries, nothing silly at all about a reasonable question. What I meant was that when placed side-by-side a 9" axle with large bearings is noticably different from a small-bearing axle because of the size of the bolts used on the backing plate and the spacing of those bolts. Attached photos explain it more easily than words can.

Hey, no problem. Glad to provide the info. Please remember than no question is stupid. I remember some of the stuff *I* used to ask and the patience people used to have when answering me. Anytime you have a question pls post it & I'll see it or someone else will, or if you prefer shoot me a PM. If I don't have the answer I'll ask the mods & we'll look it up. *Someone* here will always get you an answer, it's the whole POINT of the forum. Granted we like to goof around & have fun w/each other but the whole point of this is to help each other out & to answer questions. Everyone here is a curious guy who likes his truck, so we all *start* from a common point.
