am wondering since i am going to permanently remove the hard top and will therefore no longer need the rear window will the gate from an f-150 fit as they are cheaper lighter andmore readily available than those for the bronco

yo!

here is a pic;

F 150 Tailgate on an 82 by Mark L at 4wheeloffroad.com

http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/featuredvehic...82_ford_bronco/

but he did a lot of fabrication since the B tg is thicker than the F series TG's; I believe they use the same latches though

Is the TG badly rusted or damaged?

if not; just remove the motor, glass, and everythAng else to save a lot of weight

if it is, then use the new super body panel adhesive to adhere alum plates to it

Quarter Panel Repair Procedures using Fusor Metal Adhesive, general by lord.com

Panel Adhesive = $26.00 a tube, Application Gun = $65.00, etc. by http://www.wheelersautobody.com

Or, use it as spare parts or water/gas can carrier to cover up repaired sections

like Chris B did (site is down temp.)

http://chrisb.users.superford.org/Projects...er_Carrier.html

and Bronkzilla http://www.bronkzilla.com/images/cartandlights/LIGHTON2.JPG

ok,

since I see you are ASE, why not just get some alum plate or al diamond plate and fab a panel & use the bottom hinges; roll the top section... etc.

MiesK5, Once again, you've found a great link!!! I remember reading that article in 4WOR, gonna see if I can dig up the copy and re-read it. I think that tailgate was welded to the bedsides, then cut down in the middle (like a half-door). Aside from being thicker than an F-150 tailgate, the Bronco version is angled back into the cargo area instead of being flat like on the pick-up bed. Where the F-150 tg uses the fold-down struts and a sortof dowel mount on the sides to allow removal, the Bronco tg is secured with hinges bolted to the bottom of the bed. So, it's not a simple swap, but may be possible. I think it's simpler to gut the tailgate and re-work the latch rod so it will open without the glass. This has been done and is listed in Miesk5's homepage. I thought about the same thing, but have seen the whole tg removed, too.

dont think the top portion of the gate would make a differance but yeah the hinges are different gonna check out a friends gate that he took off his p-up if i can figure out the hinge the rest should be easy and the two truck i have both have been made to open with the glass in any position mainly because the arm fell out and did not see any reason to put it back in had to fight to get one open at work once and since then forget it
