Hello all.

I have a '95 with a 5.0/auto. If I replace the factory single exhaust with a new single exhaust without a cat, will my O2 sensor still function the same? I pose this question because I think my catalytic converter is stopped up. I'm getting that rotten egg smell sometimes and an unburned fuel smell others. Would a clogged converter cause this?

Can't go without a cat. All kinds of things will pop up not to mention the feds really frown on that.

Use a vaccuum guage to check the converter. If it is clogged or there is some other serious exhaust restriction, the guage will drop to a very low vaccuum then recover when the engine is running about 2500 rpm.

If the guage is steady the cat is not blocked.

Mine has no cat- I repaced that portion where the cat was with a piece of pipe. Got an O2 sensor ******, drilled into pipe and welded in place, then replaced the O2 sensor. I have never thrown a code, but of course, mine is "for off road use only" and would never pass any emissions testing.

I don't have a 95' handy to refer to so I'm not really sure just where the O2 sensor is located on yours and that's what counts. Most that I have seen have the sensor mounted upstream (in front) of the cat. If that's the case with yours then no, it won't be an issue install the new exhaust pieces and be done with it, but like many others I'd recommend replacing it rather than just slapping in a straight-pipe. If you live in a state with any sort of emissions testing there's no way you'll ever pass without it and if/when you go to sell the truck it may become an issue to the buyer. If the O2 sensor is located either in the converter itself or downstream (behind) of it then you'll encounter some problems. First will be the ck engine light, the computer uses input from the O2 sensor to help it decide how rich or lean to run the truck so if you remove the sensor (or even change it's location or the length of the sensor wiring in some cases) the computer will either default into "limp home" mode or do something unpredictable with your fuel map. chances are it will err on the side of caution & run the thing pig rich dumping smoke out the exhaust when you hit the throttle & killing your mileage.

I think the 95's have an oxygen sensor on each side of the cat, But not 100 percent on that. If you run dual, just get a short connector pipe to go between the 2 pipes and install your oxygen sensor in there. As for the cat, well its there for a reason, if you decide to remove it not only will it ***** up emissions testing but it will also stink and smoke a bit.
