It actually runs? Hit up a junk yard and find another Bronco or 150 with the 351w and snag the computer....

If you have a mass air cpu in the truck don't bother there all really the same. If it has a speed density set up and is not running good do like bidibronco said and go to the bone yard and snag one.The way to tell the difference is a mass air system will have a sensor between your airbox and throttle body. Speed density will have just a map sensor on your fire wall.

302 to 351 EFI Swap Tips

Source: by Ryan M (Fireguy50)

esp. "Computer You must get a 351 computer from a truck just like your 302. If you have a E4OD transmission you must get a 351 computer from an E4OD truck. You should be able to get this off a junkyard truck just like the intake. Just don't get one that was on a flood damaged veh..."

Yes it actually runs. Ive been told there are like 5 different computers for the 351. also when I hit 35-40mph my bronc starts to shake a little. What could cause this?

Did it do this *before* you changed engines ? Any chance a motor mount has loosened up ? How's the transmission mount ? An out-of-balance driveshaft will also cause a problem like that. Are you running a lift ? Track rod issues can cause this as well. When the truck shakes is it just the body or do you feel it in the steering wheel as well ? If it's at higher speeds (35/40) and seems to occur around shift points I'd probably look at the driveshaft first, then the transmission mount. Does this also happen in 4WD ?

As for the computer. Exactly what vehicle did you use as a donor ? You're right with there being several computers, one for a 302/auto, another for 302/manual, then 351/auto, 351/manual, 300/auto,300/manual, etc, etc, etc. You can identify the donor & get the matching computer OR get one that matches your current combo (a computer for a manual won't be as useful if you're running this with an auto). Figure out what you've got & go to this page to find out what the ID code on the computer you need is then grab your toolbag & go hunting. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=17

Is a 302 internally balanced? I know the 351 is externally but not sure of the 302? I'm not sure it would matter as long as you used the 351 "flex plate." Just wonding?

302's up thru 81/82 (not sure quite where the cutoff is) are externally balanced and used the 28oz. flywheel and engines after that are called 5.0's and are internally balanced and use 50oz. flywheels. So next time you're at a party you can impress your friends by knowing when & why Ford changed the nomenclature from 302 to 5.0 & if you weren't a married man you'd scoop all the babes and embarass your friends. Just out of curiousity what the **** has this got to do with the thread <grin> ?
