I'm a newbie to this site so excuse me if i ***** up...Now for my question I have a 1989 FS Bronco XLT with a C6 Tranny. My motor has 250,000 miles on it and is leaking at the rear main seal area and I'm losing cooltant at the top front left side intake manifold where the intake meets the block and left side head area. This motor run weak due to alot of towing...I found another 5.8L W motor, but it comes out of a van and its a 1991 engine. I was wondering could I put a 1991 5.8L W motor in my 1989 (it has a 5.8L W in it now). What should l look out for, would it mount up the same? Its been yrs since I swap motor but know I still can. Any advice would be appreciated

TO MY KNOWLEGE IT SHOULD ALL BOLT RIGHT UP. MOUNTS. TRANNY. SHOULD WORK JUST FINE. THE ONLY THING YOU MIGHT COMEINTO ISSUES WITH IS THE WIRING FOR THINGS THAT COULD BE DIFF ON EACH VEHICLE SUCH AS ALTERNATOR AND OTHER COMPONENTS ON THE ENGINE. IF THEY ARE BOTH THE 351 WINDSOR FOR SURE. THE BLOCKS SHOULD BE THE EXACT SAME BUT THE REST COULD BE DIFF. I HAVE NEVER LOOKED AT THE VAN ENGINES BUT IF THE COMPONENTS ARE DIFF THEN TO BYPASS WIRING ISSUES JUST USE THE OLD THINGS FROM UR OLD 351 IF THEY ARE STILL GOOD. CAUSE THE PARTS SHOULD STILL BOLT ON JUST THE SAME. I COULD BE WRONG. ANYONE WANT TO CORRECT ME IF I AM? DONT WANT TO MISS LEAD HIM

89 and 91 are pretty much identical. There was some changes after that but you should be fine. The 89 should have 2 fuel pumps where the 91 should have one. But I cant see why that would affect your swap.

Yes it will work.. Everything will bolt up.

I've done a 87 302 to a 96 351.. Everything bolts up.

Hello all--

Bump for some help. I am working on a similar project. I just purchased an 89 Bronco and am swaping the 89 351w that came in it for a 92 351w out of a F250.

Good to know it should just swap right out.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good service/shop manual to walk through the process (online version preferably, with blow-aparts)? I have a Haynes manual but looking for as much info as I can gather.

Any insight or other info would be appreciated. I am doing this project with my brother who has done a lot of work on Miatas and is currently building up a 73 Porsche and a Shelby so we have mechanical experience just not Bronco specific knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Tom
