when i started my truck it went up to 2 grand then just shut off

it did this about 5 times and i even sat there and rev. the motor to see mayb it needed to warm up (although i had been driving it all day) but the only way for me to stop it from shuting off was to put it into gear

everything under the hood is new but the alt. and the belt, i just put a new starter in her 3 days ago and the alt. is charging so im not sure whats happening?

bad spark plugs maybe?

any body got an idea

so it revs to 2K and then dies ? but it *won't* do this if it's in gear ? So it's only doing this in park & neutral ? Once it's in gear how does it act.

look at the surging thread. my truck did that and it was the IAC valve. it controls the idle when not in gear and when your foot isnt on the pedal. my advice, get a new one!

I agree with kansas, my friend '91 f-150 did this and after we replaced the IAC all was well. Oh the IAC wasn't our first thought, it was 4 thoughts and 100 bucks later. :-"
