Hi Need some thoughts on elctric fuel pumps. Have a 79 351m auto No air. The guy wants to put an elctric pump on it. I saw one at Car Quest for 60 bucks. This one didn't have a regulater. The guy said it only puts out 4 to7psi so it do need one.?? This 79 is a daily driver in the summer, he might take it on a trip now and then, but no wheeling. Need some thoughts. Thanks

7 psi would be perfect, no regulator needed. Remember the cheaper the fuel pump the more you will walk.

IF you're going to run an electric fuel pump on a carb, there are three parts that i would say are a necessity. A good filter between the tank and the pump, as any trash will quickly **** the pump. Two is a pressure regulator. While the carb only needs 4-7 psi, the regulator is needed to prevent flooding or overfill, and the output or gph of each pump will vary. Third and most critical is a safety cut-off switch controlled by the oil pressure. No oil pressure = no fuel, which is important when the engine is shut off or suddenly loses oil pressure. The Carter pump that delivers 65-70 gph at 4-7 psi is barely adequate for a V8 motor, too. You might look at something like one from Holley at 140 gph. I'm using one like that from JEG's on my 460 in the 84 Bronco. JSM84
