efi to carb questions

I recently purchased a 89 bronco with 302 with efi. I would like to change to Carb...my question is does the efi control transmission in any way? A buddy of mine had a 93 f150 and he swapped to Carb and his transmission never shifted right after that and he had said it was because the efi controlled his passing gear....I'm kind of new to this as much as I enjoy it...
