Is it necessary to have the oil dipstick tube connected to the block when running a vehicle? what will happen if it's not? will oil come spurting out?

Is it necessary to have the oil dipstick tube connected to the block when running a vehicle?  what will happen if it's not? will oil come spurting out?

Yes, it is needed to be in place as it has several important functions other than holding the BBQ skewer /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The oil won't come squirting out as the hole is not connected to the oil pump or any presurrized area of the oil system.. BUT it will prevent oil from splashing out on turns, protect the oils viscosity by preventing hot oil vapors from escaping, prevent dirt and water from entering the block and allow you to read the levels of oil quickly and accurately.

If your metal tab on the dipstick tubehas broken off, just install an all metal tube/hose clamp on the tube & bolt to manifold/block etc.
