Hi, haven't been on in a while. I was just about finished switching every thing over to my new motor, when i went to put the serpentine belt back on it was to short. Is there a difference in where the holes for the alternator or ac compressor brackets mount. I'm asking this because there was also a differnce earlier on, when i noticed there was a hole in the block for the oil dipstick, while on the old one it goes to the oil pan. It has a 5.8l 351w and its in an '89 ford bronco. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well really need a little more info here what was your old motor ? If it was a 302 then its not the mounting holes for the accesories as they are the same but the spacing due to the deck height is different the 351 is wider which puts everything out farther making your belt too short . If it was a 351 that you had make sure you route it correctly making the wrong turn around a pulley or idler wil make the belt end up short or too long . Last thing I can think of is make sure the water pump you have is a reverse rotation pump for the serpentine belt a standard rotation pump will bolt right onto the front cover but the ports do not line up and it will pour antifreeze out of it quicker than you can put it in . ( personal experience ) . As for the dipstick the front cover on this motor was probably a car motor with a front sump pan these went right into a boss on the cover . Most all of the truck or rear sump or the fox body double sump pans had the dipstick in the pan . I have seen and think I have a couple 351,s that have the dipstick tube hole in the drivers side of the block as well . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The old motor was also a 351w. I double checked the belt and its routed correctly. I called the shop and asked them if they could get me a little longer belt and they said they had a couple of different belts. Is this the way to go???
