Cruise control Gremlin

Cruise works normally until...
You turn on either parking or head lights then cruise shuts off. Turn lights off, cruise works again.
How are these two system interrelated? Where should I be looking to troubleshoot?

Hey Broncoguy!
On a 96, part of the cruise circuits ground through the brakelights. When the brakelights activate, the ground goes away and the cruise cancels.
A bad ground at either of the tail lights will recreate this scenario as soon as the park ligkts come on.
So, long story short, look for a bad ground at either tailight.

Or a busted bulb filament. They can break and short across.

But yes, brakes lights is where to look.

The cruise on my ‘96 EB Bronco just failed. Brake lights work, 3rd light works. Will LED bulbs in the brake lights affect it due to the low current draw? The 3rd light has regular bulbs.

LED should not affect the Cruise control.

Has your bronco ever had the recall done for the switch on the Master cylinder? There could be a failure there causing the Cruise to fail.
