On an 82 that'd be the old Z-bar clutch linkage, look over the linkages for anything that appears to be coming apart or bent or broken. Also their could be something wrong with the pressure plate, the little fingers could have bent a bit, or something could be horribly rusted, or maybe some of the fingers are broken. If it's the linkage, well your probably in trouble because those parts are made of pure unobtainium.
You can however swap out to a hydraulic clutch. Get a bell housing from an 83 1/2 to 86 bronco/f150. They take external ***** cylinders. Some transmissions can also work okay with the concentric ***** cylinders, but, I find their more of a pain in the ass to work with (and more expensive). The external ***** is cake to install, hardest part of the job would be mounting the master cylinder, because their is likely not a knockout in the firewall for it. You can use a hole saw and a right angle drill, or a right angle drill attachment, like
this one* however,
this one** , is a bit nicer because its, not just a right angle, but whatever angle you want.
here's the exact url's incase the links dont work right for you
