Ok, you wanted diagrams so here's the info from the Ford factory manuals. I assume you have an 8.8" rearend. This is what you should need.

Lemme know if you need something more or if these scans don't explain it well enuf. The job itself is fairly straightforward but the real bitch is setting a proper contact pattern so that the ring/pinion combo lasts more tha a few hundred miles. I've seen it done wrong and the whole assembly lasted maybe 600 miles before chewing itself up so badly that neither the ring OR pinion could be salvaged. Get yourself some Prussian Blue and do your homework. If you need the scans for the contact pattern let me know.

my sound was more of a constant hard click or shudder like some thing was catching
I've seen that. A friend had one with a loud click that you could feel thru the chassis. We eventually narrowediti down to the rearend and when we pulled the center section we found 3 of the ringgear bolts had backed out. One had had the head shaved completely off and the other two were in the process. Apparently the prev owner forgot to loctite those particular bolts when he swapped gears.
