antenna_1.jpgantenna_2.jpgI wanted to do that, but couldn't due to the plastic sport mirrors. So what I ended up doing was getting a bracket that fits on the tractor trailor mirror braces, mounting it on the spare tire rack, and putting a firestick on it. Seems to work just fine, which is good because I didn't want to drill holes in the body to mount L brackets for the antenna.

thanks

I think i will make a bracket that will go between the gate and the body. I had the mounts for a tire rack and i filled em in with bondo and i wish i left 1 or 2 they would have been perfect.

This is my beloved 79 before I modified it but shows a pretty decent pic of the antenna on the rear bumber. It worked real well but needed the tennis ball to keep from thumping.

I used to have my antennas on the mirror, that looks awesome. When I switched to the new style front end I used the newer mirrors as well, now I have nowhere to mount the antennas, I have tried placing them all over the truck and nothing looks as good as the mirrors to me. Get 2, 3 foot antennas if you do it.

20% of your antenna must be above the height of the cab in order to work properly, if it is not then all you will pick up is motor noise and muffled tones. Also if you are planning on using an old skool type antenna then you will want to place tennis balls on it where ever it could contact metal other wise it will ground out on your truck and could short out your radio.
