I just installed a professionally rebuilt 1356 manual transfer case in my 1996 Bronco with auto trans. and hubs. It is exhibiting the same reluctance to engauge 4W/D high while in motion as the one I just took out. The linkage and shifter both appear to be in order and the limit tab on the shift gate is at the proper position in all 4 modes, 2w/d-- 4w/d neutral and 4w/d low. When shifting from 2w/d high to 4 w/d high even at low speeds (3-5 m.p.h.) a loud ratcheting sound is evident and continues until the truck comes to a stop and the transfer case "jumps " into 4w/d high. I have 2 Broncos and have had several Ford 150s and all of them never had a problem engauging 4 w/d high while in motion even at highway speeds- they all had auto hubs and auto trans.

With the long odds of having a rebuilt case with the same problems as the old one I thought I might trouble any of you with an idea as to what else it could be prior to swaping out yet another case.

Thank you

Breast feeding?--- at least you clicked on the post, I'm a little frustrated given the working conditions I have for pulling these things. Just maybe one of you has a magic bullet to get it working. As far as the other original case goes it was making a loud clunking noise when pulling off from a stop,(way to much run-out) so it definitely needed to go.

Is there any chance that you have a bad auto hub?

Do you have another set that you could install and try out temporaily?
