Hey bud, you're not wrong or I don't argue with what you state. You make some great points about the virtues of your soilid -axle Bronco. I would have prefered to do an SAS on my Bronco instead of the 6"lift on the stock suspension. I know from experience that at some point in the not-too-distant future that I will be replacing an axleshaft or u-joint in the front end. I'll be breaking the rear 9" parts sooner if I install a minispool for better ttraction. That's when I will upgrade to an axle set-up from an F250 to get stronger components that can better handle the 35" tires. :)>-

One of the main reasons you should swap in a Solid Front Axle is that when you lift a vehicle that has IFS, you put a lot of strain on the conponents. This leads to premature wheel wear, suspension components breaking, and alot of other crap that just leads to headaches. If you do not replace the axle, the largest lift recommended is 4", because the wear and tear is not going to be that much.

IFS has a crap-load of technology in it. The solid front axle is pretty basic, and I would recommend a SAS if you want to lift a vehicle. Yes, it will not ride as well as it did when it was stock, but then again, you are gonna be putting mud tires on it anyway, and the ride is gonna ruff.

Solid Axle Swap

The best years are the 78-79 Ford F-250, and they are pretty cheap in a junk yard. If you want to go really beefed up, go for two ton Rockwells, but the Rockies will take more time to install. Depending on your skill level and the size of your wallet, these are the two axles I would swap in. If you want to go with the F-250 axles, go to: broncograveyard.com and look up a solid axle kit, it has alot of good info. And its completely bolt on. I would suggest going with the Dana 60. And it also has a technical support line just in case.

Hope this helps...if anyone has any better ideas....

>:) I have a 1991 Bronco with a 8" lift and a small body lift. I do a lot of mudding out here in Virginia & in North Carolina and I have never felt like I was going to roll-over. You just need to have a lot of "RESPECT" for what you are doing and not try to abuse it and try to push your limits...

The Rockwell axles come on a 2-1/2 ton type of truck, mostly miltary surplus vehicles, but are not practical for most offroading or what the average 4wheeler needs.

If you look at broncograveyard.com for the solid axle swap the give 8", 10", or 12" prices. I am not sure I would wanna go over 8" on a street vehicle. I really wanna do the swap on my 84. So much so that I already have the axle. I just dont wanna add eight more inches to it. I only have 33s on it now and I dont want to go anything over 35s ever.

If you want to run a tire that is that big you have to atleast run 2.5 ton or even 5 ton rockwell, that tire is almost a monster truck tire. the advantages of top loaders is there gear ratio at 6.72, the decrease in pinion angle of course strength. Most of the time it takes a good fabricator to put them under the truck. But in my opinion there are only good for extreme offroad or a show vehicle.

I have an 8" skyjacker suspension lift with 3" performance accessories body lift and I think it looks great! it clears my 36's like a mother!! lol I think next Ill go with 40's or 42's, just depends on how much money I have at the time. I have a lot of offroading friends that say Dana 60's are good axles to go with and I think thats one thing I will probably do later on when i have the time and the money.
