uuuugghhhhh.........well went under the truck today looking to narrow down the banging noise . here is what i found . the right rear bracket where the bolt goes through the bracket and the leaf spring rusted through where the bracket is mounted to the frame causing the leaf spring to bang hard against the bottom of the truck near the bumper. in plain words the rear of the spring has no tension on it and is now up against the bottom of the truck . anyone ever have this happen and what will it cost me to take the truck to a shop to get repaired? is the job hard to do?

Yup, seen it a few times, and actually waitin for that ball to drop on mine. The hardest part about that job is if it still has the factory rivets holding the bracket to the frame. If thats the case, you either have to cut them off with a cutting wheel, or torch them out. If you torch them out, I suggest dropin the gas tank out. once the rivets are out, you'll need to get some grade 8 bolts to replace them, then its just a bolt up procedure. Looks worse then it really is.

If you don't fix it soon, it will punch it's way through the floor. Not sure what a shop will charged you, but you can get all the parts from Jeff's or LMC truck to fix it. Sounds like it is time for new bolts and bushings all around. You should be able to do this by yourself or with a little help from a friend.

Good luck,

:)>-

well replaced the 2 brackets . it took the shop 6.5 hours of labor also needed to replace the shackles. fuel tank needed to be dropped. they had a major problem getting the leaf spring out from under the bottom of the truck the spring bracket that broke apart was wedged in the bottom of the truck the bracket that was attached to the spring went through the floor of the truck they had to put new bolts in to secure the fuel tank also . had to remove the ubolts that attach the spring to the rear . total cost 800 bucks . . .i have sticker shock but then on the other hand my knuckles are in good shape and my back feels good. the truck rides like a new truck now i am in total controll i can drive it with one finger now. .LONG AFTER THE PRICE IS FORGOTTEN THE QUALITY STILL REMAINS
